Shoot House
What is a shoot house? Well, it is just a fancy name used for a shooting range where small arms can be tested for training and other purposes. Such shooting ranges are usually used by law enforcement personnel and other agencies to train for close engagement in urban environments.
Depending on the specification, a shoot house can mimic a wide range of buildings and settings such as commercial spaces, industrial spaces, and even residential spaces! Since these areas are specifically designed to get the law enforcement personnel to get acquainted with different areas, it also helps them to understand how to react in these areas.
If we talk about the construction of a shoot house, it also depends on the requirements and the specification; thus, the required material and even the cost can vary. However, one thing that remains the same in every shoot house is that it must be safe and must not cause any harm/damage to the nearby area and even to those who are inside the shooting range.
Purpose of Shoot House
As mentioned earlier, a shoot house can be modified to resemble any residential, industrial, or commercial setting and usually contains special floors and walls which can absorb the ammunition impact from close range. One of the main reasons behind these purpose-built shooting ranges is that it makes it easy for security personnel to get trained in different types of areas. And when security personnel actually go into a residential, industrial, or commercial area, they are already used to such types of settings!
Furthermore, different scenarios can also be built to train the police or other security agencies for different purposes such as room clearing, hostage rescue, and to be able to tell the difference between enemy and innocent hostages!
A properly fortified shoot house can be used for training with the dry or blank fire with no problem. Furthermore, it also makes it easy for the instructors to train the soldiers, police, or any law enforcement agency on how to deal with and react in a live environment.
Materials used in Shoot House
The exact list of materials used for the construction of a shoot house can differ depending on the specification. It can be something as simple as concrete or plywood to more fortified materials such as ballistic rubber. Once again, the material being used will depend on the purpose for which the shoot house was built!
Materials such as plywood may not provide as much fortification as ballistic rubber or concrete. That’s why such materials are only used for temporary needs or when the cost is an issue – In such scenarios, materials such as these can make a great wall!
But generally, materials such as concrete and ballistic rubber are used, which can absorb gunfire and provide greater fortification.
As for target practicing or for simulation of different scenarios, mannequins or paper targets can be used. In fact, these targets can also be moved using rails and different types of mechanisms to make the simulation more realistic!
